Dr. James Tidwell, MD, FAAD
James Tidwell, MD,FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. He also has a third board certification in venous and lymphatic medicine.
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dr. Tidwell graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he graduated first in his class with distinction.

Following an internship at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, he completed his dermatology residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Dr. Tidwell then completed his Mohs Fellowship training at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA. He has been fortunate to have trained with Dr. Rex Ammonette at the University of Tennessee, the first Mohs surgeon in the south, and Dr. Hugh Greenway in California, both of whom were trained by Dr. Frederic E. Mohs himself.
Dr. Tidwell has practiced Mohs surgery and venous medicine across the country, from Kentucky and Tennessee to California, where he also held his own private practice. He has co-authored several research publications and articles in medical journals and is a member of multiple medical societies.
Before studying medicine, Dr. Tidwell was a Congressional Aid for Congressman Ed Whitfield in Washington, D.C. After completing his dermatology residency, he become involved in several dermatology activist groups, including the ASDS Federal and State Affairs Work Groups, which lobby for issues affecting dermatology at state and federal levels and establishing guidelines for skin cancer treatment.
When he isn’t working in the world of dermatology, Dr. Tidwell enjoys endurance athletics (he has completed an Ironman Event), travel, cooking, and his dog Dolly.
